William Lester Stevens, N.A. (1888 - 1969)

Known as a major artist of the Rockport school, Stevens was born there until 1934, moving to western Massachussetts, where this work was most likely painted. A member of the National Academy, he first exhibited there at the age of eighteen. Stevens was a founding member of the Rockport Art Association and active in numerous art clubs, winning many awards.
