Cape Cod artist Caleb Slade was born in Acushnet, Massachusetts, attended the New Bedford schools, and then Brown University. After graduating in 1904 he began a business career, then turned to painting, studying at the Art Students League and in Paris. He and his wife remained in Paris during WWI where he painting images of the war, many of which were published in Scribner's and the NY Times. He also traveled and painted in Algeria and Tunisia. In the 1920's the Slades settled in Truro on Cape Cod where Slade produced many beautiful local landscapes. In 2001 an exhibition of his work was held at the Cape Cod Museum and the Attleboro Museum.
