Breta Longacre (1887 � 1923)

Born in Baltimore, she and her sister Lydia were daughters of a Methodist minister, Andrew Longacre, who also was an engraver and painter. Breta studied at the Art Students League and in 1914 and 1915 exhibited at Old Lyme. She eventually settled in Greenwich and raised a family. Longacre was a member of the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, and the Society of American Women Artists. In 1937 the Greenwich Public Library honored her with an exhibition. Her works are also in the collection of the Florence Griswold Museum.
