Harry Leslie Hoffman, A.N.A. (1871 - 1964)

Well-known Old Lyme artist, Hoffman studied with Frank Vincent Dumond at the Art Students League and at Yale with John Ferguson Weir, then in Paris. He first visited Old Lyme in 1902 and from then on was part of the artists' group at Florence Griswold's house. Here he was strongly influenced by the work of Willard Metcalf. Elected into the National Academy in 1930, Hoffman exhibited widely winning numerous awards. He was a key figure in the preservation of the Florence Griswold house and the establishment of the museum.
