Robert Henry Logan was born in Waltham, Massachusetts. He studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School with Frank Benson and Edmund Tarbell, then in Paris at the Academie Julien. While in Paris he also studied with Robert Henri. In 1905 Logan exhibited at the Paris Salon, winning the Prix de Rome. through Henri, Logan met fellow artist James William Morrice. The two travelled and painted in Brittany, England, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain and Morocco. Logan returned to the United States in 1912 and established a studio in Rockport, MA.
