oil on panel, spprox. 8" x 11", signed lower left

A very fine example of Greenwood's work. Born in Spencer, Massachusetts, Jpseph Greenwood is beloved as a Worcester artist, with most of his plein air landscapes painted in the environs of Central Massachusetts. His paintings encompass 19th c. tonalism and later on transtioned into the brighter palette of early impressionism. Greenwood studied with Robert Swain Gifford. He exhibited at the Boston Art Club, the National Academy, and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art. In 2004 the Worcester Art Museum featured an exhibition of his work.
