One of the most recognized artists of the late 19th and early 20th c. on Cape Cod, C.D. Cahoon was born in Harwich. His father was a sea captain and an amateur artist. Cahoon studied photography in Boston, establishing a studio there, and by 1900 was painting full time. After the stock market crash of 1929, he lived full time in Harwich. He is best known for his serene landscapes such as this, painted along the shores, dunes, and marshes of the Cape.
