Edward B. Gay, N.A. (1837 � 1928)

Born in Dublin, Edward Gay came to New York with his family in 1848. He grew up in Albany and was painting landscapes as early as 1856. Gay studied in Albany with James and William Hart and George Boughton, and also in Germany. He was elected an Associate member of the National Academy in 1868, and a full Academician in 1907. He also exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Corcoran, the St. Louis Expo, and the Pan-American Expo, winning numerous prizes and awards. Gay settled in Mt. Vernon, New York, and summered at the artists' colony in Cragsmore.
