James Goodwin McManus (1882 - 1958)

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, James McManus studied with Charles Noel Flagg and also with Robert Brandegee, Walter Griffin, William Gedney Bunce, and Montague Flagg. He taught at the Hartford Public High School and was a founder of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art. He spent summers at the art colonies in Gloucester and at Old Lyme. McManus was a member of the Salmagundi Club, the Lyme Artists Association and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.
